Management of the Association

The activities of the Association are currently managed by a seven (7) member Executive Council made up of seasoned media practitioners selected from among the general membership of the Association. The Executive Council is assisted by a team employed to work in the National Secretariat. This team currently made up of an Accounts Officer and an Administrative Assistant is headed by the Executive Director with years of experience in project management, finance, and administration, who also serves as the Executive Secretary to the Council.

The President

Cecil Thomas Sunkwa-Mills is currently the President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and Consultant to MultiChoice Ghana after a successful consecutive period of 10 and 5 years, as the Managing Director of Multichoice and GOtv Ghana Limited, and Regional Business Development Manager for some 7 West African DStv Agencies of the Multichoice Group. He also currently serves as a Board member and Director for a couple of other public and private businesses.

Cecil has an extensive professional life which includes leadership positions in Retail Banking, Business and Product Development, Service Quality, Customer Experience, Quality Management, Marketing and Operations, and Sales in Banking, private and NGO sectors with institutions such as Multichoice Ghana Limited, Société Générale Bank, GOtv Ghana Ltd, and the Ghana Red Cross. He has been key to the strong building of pay-TV content and structures resulting in phenomenal pay-TV subscriber and local content, partnerships, and channel growth in Ghana with projects such as Digital Terrestrial television rollout, content channels such as Akwaaba Magic, ROK GH, Trace Naija and ShowMax to mention a few during his tenure.

He holds an Executive Master’s in Business Degree (EMBA) in Marketing from the University of Ghana, Legon.

He is a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana and also holds professional certificates in Public Relations, Advertising & Marketing, Community Development, ISO 2000 Quality, Harvard Master Class in e-commerce, Naspers Media Industry Programme and Pacific Institute Leadership Program.

Ernest Boateng

The Vice President

Ernest Boateng is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance Holdings (with a portfolio of 4 radio stations, 3 multiplexes, and a television station). Ernest has (ten) 10 years of banking experience in the UK, Africa, Asia, and the USA, and fourteen (14) years of working in the broadcast industry. Ernest is a board member of Global Media Alliance, Global Media Alliance Broadcast Ltd., and Silverbird West Africa Holdings. He is the current board chairman of Silverbird Entertainment Ghana Ltd and a board member of the National Film Authority. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Arts, Economics & Philosophy from the Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, and an MBA in Finance and International Management Strategy from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA.

Prince Hari Crystal
Executive Council Member (Pay TV)

Prince Hari Crystal holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Ghana and has a Professional Certificate in TV News Journalism from the Deutsche Welle – DW Akademie and has hands-on experience in Television Broadcast Engineering through the China Radio & TV Corporation for International Techno-Economic Cooperation (CRTV). He has outstanding knowledge in the field of film and television productions, digital terrestrial and satellite television, and radio broadcasting technology and has acquired a portfolio of experience for over 18 years and counting. He is currently the Director of Television for Crystal Radiovision Network. He manages Content Design, Productions, and Acquisitions, as well as Research and Development at Crystal TV. He is also the Corporate Communications Director for Crystal Media Group and the Director of Operations for Mega-Choice Digital Network. He has worked with a wide spectrum of broadcast technology providers, both from systems manufacturers and operators alike.

Matthew Martin Anderson is the Chief Executive Officer of Aseda FM. Matthew is also the Board Secretary of Daasgift Quality Foundation. He established Goodnews FM and subsequently become the substantive Chief Executive Officer until 2006 when he resigned and established Aseda FM also in Takoradi. In 1983, together with a Taiwanese company, he established Trio Courage Limited, Tema. He has twenty-one (21) years of experience in the radio broadcast industry. Until his election unto the Executive Council, Matthew was the Western Regional Coordinator for GIBA, contributing immensely to the growth of the Association in the region while ensuring cohesion among members. He holds a Diploma in Business Administration and Management from the London Business College.

GIBA - Abdulai Awudu

Executive Council Member (Internet/Webcasting)

Abdulai Awudu is the General Manager of Multimedia Group Ltd (Adom Brands), managing a cluster of Television, Radio, Online and Social Media assets for the group, having joined the group for the creation of their TV channel – MultiTV. He has twenty-seven (27) years of experience in television film and content designing, creation and acquisition some of which have won national awards. He holds a Diploma from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) in Film Directing, a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Ghana (National Film and Television Institute), an Executive Certificate in Marketing, Social & Organisational Research from Central University College, a BBC Media Leaders Training. He has undergone a course in Developing & Leading High-Performance Teams from Columbia University New York – Executive Education and is currently pursuing an MA in Media Management from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Kwame Adu-Mante is the Chief Executive Officer of Focus 1 Media Group (with a portfolio of 5 radio stations). He has twenty-one (21) years of experience in the broadcast industry holding managerial positions. He holds a Higher National Diploma in building technology and a Graduate Diploma in Management.
